    National Union of Students

     

    The National Union of Students (NUS) is the national voice of students helping them to campaign, get cheap student discounts and provide advice on living student life to the full.

    NUS strives to promote defend and extend the rights of students' and to champion strong and active students' unions. This means they champion the rights of Liverpool Hope students nationally and work to make our students' union even better!


    Through the 600 Affiliated Students’ Unions, the NUS represents over 7 million students and Liverpool Hope Students’ Union has an important role to play in that... it’s very exciting!

    Any Liverpool Hope student can stand for election to attend annual, zone and liberation conferences held throughout the year.

     

    What is Annual Conference?

    NUS Annual Conference takes place on Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th April; its role is to set the policy, direction and prio
    rities for the year. It is also where candidates running for the National Executive Council are elected.


    What are Zone Conferences?


    There are four zones within the NUS: Further Education, Higher Education, Society & Citizenship and Union Development.
    Each of these Zones has a conference each year were students are given a chance to hear from experts and each other, it’s a great opportunity for people to network and a chance to feed into NUS’ priorities and processes.

    The events include big-name keynote speakers, panel debates, workshops led by external experts, reports from the Zone Vice President and the exciting zone Committee Elections.

    Welfare & Society Citizenship Zone - 23-24 October
    HE Zone - 24-25 October
    FE Zone - 25-26 October
    Union Development - 26-28 October

     

    What are Liberation Campaigns and what are the conferences?

    The four liberation campaigns are the Black Students’ campaign, Disabled Students’ campaign, Women’s Campaign and the LGBT Students’ Campaign. Each year they hold individual conferences for those who self- define within those groups to vote on the policy and direction of the campaign.
