You will be aware from media reporting of the current outbreak in Mexico of Swine Flu and you may be concerned about its spread to other countries including the UK. The situation is changing daily, so for up to date information from the NHS about looking after yourself and getting an accurate picture of swine flu, please go to www.nhs.uk and click on swine flu. Should you develop flu-type symptoms please follow these guidelines:
Remain in your room and avoid all contact with others
Telephone your GP or NHS Direct (08454647) for advice and symptom checker.
Between 8.30am and 5.30pm (Mon-Fri) please ring the Student Health Centre on 0151 291 3413 to let us know you are feeling unwell. Out of these hours, please let Security know on 0151 291 3800. If you are resident at Aigburth campus, the Security number is 0151 728 2555 or 0 if you are using an internal phone. At Everton campus, the Security number is 3700 from an internal phone.
Do not attend in person, either at your GP or the Student Health Centre until it has been established that you are not infected in order prevent the spread of the virus.
You can reduce, but not eliminate the risk of catching or spreading swine flu by:
Good hand hygiene - wash your hands with soap and water & dry thoroughly
Always cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if you cough/sneeze and
dispose of the tissue immediately and carefully
Clean hard surfaces, such as door handles, taps and toilet flushers frequently
using a normal cleaning product.
