National Voter Registration Day

"No one should be labelled as democratically 'apathetic' unitll they've been given the information they need to participate."

National Voter Registration Day (#NVRD) is taking place on Thursday 5th February 2015 as part of a UK-wide week of national action (2nd Feb - 8th Feb) to inspire young people to register to vote.

Remember, register to vote and #TAKEPOWER of British politics!

Students and young people are being let down every single day by politicians. What we need is for politicians to take notice of us, and the only way to do this is by registering to vote - once they see the percentages of students getting registered, they will start to tailor their policies to suit us more. Over 65s have free bus passes, Winter Fuel Allowance and free prescriptions because they turnout and VOTE! Only 44% of students voted in 2010, meaning that we are facing cuts to EMA, possibly to DSA and to other youth services and grants, and have seen a TRIPLING of tuition fees, after enabling a party who promised that would happen get into a coalition government because of our voting!

Hope SU President Hannah Baker will be around uni and in the SU Office (AJB061, Hope Park) to answer any questions you have about any aspect of registration, the General Election or politics in general!

For more information about registering to vote go to Bite the Ballot and check out this video response to Russell Brand by National Union of Students' Piers Telemacque about how important it is to register to vote.
