Liverpool Hope Students’ Union is extremely proud to celebrate Black History Month with you. As most return to campus this October, the Students’ Union (SU) has been working closely with the Afro Caribbean Society (ACS) to organize exciting and meaningful events on and off campus.

This year’s theme centralizes Black celebration in all its forms, recognizing joy as an act of resistance.

Black History Month reminds us that the world is not made equal and that social injustice and violence against Black people is upheld by structural racism, racialized disparities and daily microaggressions, across the globe and right here in Liverpool.

At the SU, we aim to raise awareness and host “uncomfortable” conversations, to say no to hate and all its manifestations, and to take the first steps towards an anti-racist, intersectional future by advocating for our Black peers and for Black empowerment.

Therefore, it is also important that we  — the student body — spearhead conversations, host recurring events, and implement long-term projects around anti-racism, equity, and decolonisation within higher education well past the month of October.

If you feel passionately about these topics and want to turn your ideas into reality, I invite you to email the SU at union@hope.ac.uk

Stay tuned for more details on our Instagram '@liverpoolhopesu' in the upcoming weeks as we continute to celebrate Black History, Black Culture, Black Businesses, Black Futures and last but not least, Black Joy.
