Moving to a new city can be a bit daunting at first, this is especially true if you only know one or two people.. or in many cases no one! Moving to any new city is an incredible opportunity to experience a new place and meet new people. While everyone’s approach may be different, we have listed a few of our top tips on how to settle into student life in Liverpool!

 

Say yes to everything

 

It’s easy to hide in your comfort zone.. But make the most of it and don’t leave with any regrets. You don't have to go overboard and never feel pressured to do anything that isn't ‘you’. Freshers and the first semester of term is a great way to dip your toe in, get comfortable in your surroundings and meet people. Liverpool Hope Students’ Union and the University are hosting a number of events throughout the year, this is an opportunity to meet like minded people and create great friendships.

Liverpool Student Union have lots of Clubs and societies to offer! Clubs & Societies offer the opportunity for life-long friendships, sporting success and personal growth along with a fantastic social aspect.

 

It’s perfectly normal to feel homesick!

Moving away from family and friends is a shock for everyone and it’s only natural to feel homesick every now and again. Remember, everyone is in the same boat and will be welcoming of one another.Introduce yourself to your classmates and suggest a coffee date or lunch it’s a great way to break the ice and build friendships. 

Familiarise yourself with the campus and your accommodation – it will soon feel like home.

 

Explore Liverpool

Liverpool is an iconic city with so much to do and explore! Liverpool is home to many famous landmarks, including but not limited to The Liver Buildings, the homes of The Beatles, a number of museums and the historic docks. If you like a night out Liverpool has an abundance to offer- Liverpool’s nightlife is centred on three main areas; the centre of town, Lark Lane, and the Baltic Triangle there is truly something for everyone.

Download google maps (it will save your life) and explore everything the city has to offer.

Stay safe in Liverpool

All Liverpool Hope University campuses are considered very safe, The University have campus security that monitor CCTV and carry out patrols 24/7. However you need to consider your safety off campus as well when you are travelling around. Like any city there is always a risk and it is totally normal to have concerns regarding your safety it’s always important to remain alert and take precautions to keep yourself safe when out and about.

Public transport is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get around Liverpool, nevertheless it is really important to plan your journey, how you’re travelling and how you are going to get back!

 

Arriva and stagecoach offer regular bus services up until midnight and limited bus services between the hours of 12:00am-4.59 am. We have attached the link to both of their websites so you can have a look at their timetables.
