Why join a society?

Participating in a Sports Team or Society can expand connections and friendships. It creates regular occasions in the week to meet and catch up with new people.

It looks good on your CV. Employers look for examples where a person has demonstrated transferable skills. Joining a group or becoming a committee member allows you to naturally talk about situations where you have had to use these skills, such as problem-solving or working within a team

It improves people skills. At work, you will encounter other people from different backgrounds who may have differing opinions. Joining a new group can give you experience in navigating those situations.

If you would like some advice on how to tailor your experience for a cover letter or CV, please come to the Students’ Union or book an appointment with Careers through ‘Jobteaser’.
