Discussing the proposals for the Sports Hall and Science labs development - Why were we not consulted?

How will it affect Classes and students learning and teaching?

Students were told that teaching would not be affected as the course structures for this year will be adapted to fit around the rebuild schedule; however the university did not consider dissertation students who require access to the labs for research and independent study. This has resulted in students having to change their dissertation proposals to fit around the redevelopments, and any contingency plans were not adequately communicated to students. 

How will it affect sports? 

As of January 2015, there will be no access to outdoor changing rooms at Hope Park Sports, meaning that all 'home' sports fixtures will not be able to go ahead at Hope Park. While contingency plans have been put in place by Hope SU, the lack of consultation from university on this development and the inconvenience it poses to all rugby, football and hockey fixtures and training has been highlighted by students as unfair. 

What should Hope SU do?

We obviously need better teaching spaces, and welcome the development of the Science labs and Sports Hall, but are we happy with this lack of consultation? Are we happy with the inconvenience? Are we happy that the university is not providing mobile changing rooms for fixtures? Are we happy dissertation students have had to change their dissertation proposals to fit around the redevelopments? Are we happy this will have severe impact on students’ learning? Will university reimburse the money spent by the SU on behalf of teams for facilities?

Come to the Student Forum to discuss how we can show the university that we're not happy while also showing our solidarity, between sports teams and science students, the benefit of clubs on students' lives, and what we want to do about the whole situation.
