Last summer, historian and journalist Channing Gerard Joseph (he/him or she/her) uncovered the untold true story of William Dorsey Swann – an African American man born into slavery who became the world's first self-described "drag queen" and the leader of possibly the world's earliest-known queer liberation organization. Author of the forthcoming “House of Swann: Where Slaves Became Queens—and Changed the World” which tells Swann’s story, Channing will be delivering a talk on Swann’s story and their journey to discovering this lost piece of history. This virtual event is hosted in collaboration with Aston SU, Liverpool Hope SU, Arts University Bournemouth SU and University of Bournemouth SU.
