Prossy Kakooza: What We Can All Do to Help

The LGBT Narratives Series is delighted to have Prossy Kakooza speak on international support for LGBT persons: the balancing act of helping LGBT persons internationally without making it worse for them.

‘When people hear about the persecution happening to LGBT people in countries like Uganda where I am from, their first suggestion is ‘The Aid we give to these countries must be stopped, that's abominable!’

Everybody says it with good intentions. But what impact would that have on the LGBT people in these countries, who are already persecuted? And before you suggest Aid being stopped to the other countries because of how their governments treat LGBT people, how much do you know about how the government here treat those same LGBT people when they come here to seek sanctuary?’

Prossy Kakooza is a co-founder of the Lesbian Immigration Support Group (LISG) in Manchester who was also named a Stonewall Christian role model in 2015.
