This event has expired or is no longer available.
The event aims to stimulate debate among practitioners, policy makers, and young people from across the north of England on the salient issue of voting age reform and youth citizenship. It seeks to draw on current research to engage with at least three policy areas:
• Voting age reform and democratic participation
• Democratic education and the preparedness young people for enfranchisement.
• Voting rights and youth transitions to adulthood.
The event will consist of a research presentation from the Votes@16 researchers, a series of workshops for young people exploring the issues around lowering the voting age related to ages of maturity and preparing young people for political engagement followed by presentations by the young people and a panel debate on lowering the voting age including both advocates and opponents of the policy.
It presents an excellent opportunity for young people and policy makers to interact in a constructive environment to exchange ideas and impact an emerging political agenda
